Acknowledging Safe Work Month with Accumax Global: A Commitment to Safe Work Practices

As we kick off Safe Work Month with the first topic, WHS Fundamentals, Accumax Global reflect on how we have helped thousands of our customers across Australia not only meet compliance regulations but to go above and beyond in ensuring their personnel’s safety and well-being on the job.

Important to note here, safety isn’t about just ticking boxes. It’s about seeking the hidden risks and addressing with a customised solution, often we find that we are providing our customers with custom designed and manufactured products to meet a need and mitigate risk of serious injury or death.

As we join the global community in celebrating Safe Work Month from 1 – 31 October, Accumax Global reaffirms its dedication to helping companies exceed safety standards. This year’s theme, ‘Safety is Everyone’s Business’, aligns perfectly with our mission to share our knowledge by starting conversations about how our innovative safety solutions will encourage safe work environments and prevent incidents before they happen.

Our Commitment to Work, Health and Safety

At Accumax Global, we are committed to preventing work health and safety issues before they arise. This is crucial to reducing workplace injury and death statistics. Most of our products are utilised daily across a variety of applications and environments, such as our safety barrier systems, dropped object prevention system, light vehicle products, solar powered delineators and speed signage – just to name a few. All our products are designed to help your keep personnel safe and mitigate harm caused by workplace incidents.

Over the past 10 years there have been more than 1,880 traumatic injury fatalities in Australian workplaces, and over 1,165,100 workers have made a serious workers’ compensation claim involving more than one week of working time lost (1).

What Can We Do?

It’s important that we all consider health and safety in everything we do and every decision we make (3). Here are some ways we can all contribute:

  1. Be proactive. Invite Accumax Global for a Site Visit: Identify the risks before they cause harm. Often this responsibility falls on the Health and Safety Officer, however it is everyone’s responsibility to take note and report a risk or hazard, even if it is not your primary role.Quite often in a change of role, or new workshop or project location, Project and Safety Officers need support to help identify potential risks. Our team are dedicated to working alongside yours to identify potential hazards and recommend solutions to mitigate any risk to personnel.
  2. Act. Fill in the Gaps in your Safety Inventory: Don’t identify and sit on the need, act before it’s too late.

Taking responsibility for implementing safety solutions is easy with Accumax Global. From a site visit or first enquiry, we can have your quotation turned around in a maximum of 2 hours. It’s our promise. With warehouses across Australia, we can get your products to you generally within 2-5 business days.

Don’t forget to review the solution. Our service doesn’t stop at delivering a product. If a site visit is required to assist with product use and a process implementation, we will be there. Fine-tuning the solution is a vital component and we are committed from start to finish.

  1. Talk to your Team. Talk to Us: Continually communicate with your workers. They are on the job daily and are likely more aware of hazards and risks, regular catchups with your team and encouraging open communication will assist you to monitor safety solutions implemented, fine-tune if required and keep abreast of any new requirements.

Don’t forget to pass the feedback onto Accumax Global so we can work with you along the way.

  1. Professional Development: Keep your team updated with the latest developments in safety. Under the WHS laws, workers must be provided with information, training, instruction or supervision to help them remain healthy and safe in the workplace (2).

The number of deaths due to being hit by falling objects was 6% in 2023 and was the fourth highest contributor to worker fatalities overall (4).

WHS Fundamentals: An Introduction to Safe Work MonthWhere humans are involved, there will be risk of human error. Dropped objects are a common occurrence throughout worksites, coming at a cost of serious injury or death. The perspective can be hard to imagine, a 2kg tool plus a fall of 5 metres can have an impact of more than 1Tonne.

The Accumax Global BarrierSafe Dropped Object Prevention product range includes:

1. BarrierGuard, for installation along handrail systems
2. BarrierStep, for installation on stairways
3. BarrierTread, for installation on an existing grid floor

The product range provides fast and flexible solutions that prevent objects from being dropped from a height. Site surface preparation is not required as the system is fitted to existing stanchions; this also makes the system easy to remove to provide vital access to areas for maintenance works.

Maintenance Supervisor at FMG, says “We have installed BarrierSafe in some locations and I have had positive feedback from the installers. All in all, I am very happy with the product, ease of installation and with your assistance in helping us”.

Mechanical Engineer at Rio Tinto says “Accumax have gone the extra mile to support us in finding a great solution. The versatility of the BarrierSafe system has been a winner for us. To be able to be use for either permanent or a temporary situation, like a shutdown, is brilliant. The ease of install also makes it a very suitable solution”.
